Philip is counsel in the private client and tax team and focuses on immigration.
He focuses on complex personal immigration and citizenship matters, especially for high net worth individuals from all corners of the globe. His previous experience as a corporate lawyer gives him an added insight when advising investors, entrepreneurs and overseas businesses setting up in the UK and expanding into mainland Europe.
He also advises on compliance and risk issues under the sponsor licence system as well as the prevention of illegal working legislation.
He has developed over more than 20 years’ experience, and has a reputation as the UK’s leading immigration lawyer for investors and entrepreneurs and frequently works with key players in the global banking, private banking and wealth management sectors, helping them develop investment products and policies for Tier 1 (investor) migrants.
He also has expertise in nationality law, human rights cases and those involving EU law, criminality and exclusion and regularly conducts appeals.
Philip acts for a wide selection of clients, from multinational corporations to international families, leading creatives, professionals, intellectuals and sportspeople.
He was the only non-parliamentary member of the Kirkhope Commission, a policy body for the Conservative party, and continues to be involved with senior officials in UK Visas & Immigration on immigration policy development.
Philip is a former director and treasurer of the Immigration Law Practitioners’ Association and currently co-chairs their economic migration sub-committee.
He is a special adviser to the House of Lords on immigration legislation and was a member of a high level home office working group on the design of the Points Based System.
Philip was, for five years, a non-executive director of a listed PLC in the automotive sector.
